Kirill Rodin was the Gold Medallist at the VIII International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1986. Prior to that, he was First Prizewinner at the XIV Jeunesses Musicales Competition for Cellists in Belgrade in 1984.

A much sought after soloist of the Moscow Philharmony, Rodin’s concert tours as recitalist, orchestra soloist and chamber musician has taken him worldwide to over 50 countries in Russia, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Americas. His concert performances in Italy, France, Finland, Argentine, Spain, Germany, Austria, Japan, China, the United States among other countries have met with great acclaim. His discography includes works by Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Piazzola.

Rodin has also toured as a member of the Tchaikovsky Quartet, the leading quartet in Russia, since 1985. Together with the Tchaikovsky Quartet, Rodin has given multiple performances in Hungary, Germany, Mexico, Italy, France, South Korea, Spain, and Russia among others. Their successful performances evoke enthusiastic acclaim from the public and press. Television and radio performances by the Quartet have been captured on several CD recordings.

Rodin, known for his very “beautiful tones in fluctuations of loud and soft and almost echoing pianissimo”, is a generous, comforting player who “has a strange way of sitting at the instrument, off-balance and poised, as if for sudden flight -- perched on his chair, feet arched beneath him, vividly talking, chattering in floods of pianissimo scales, challenging and cursing. He is a real and genuine creature who skilled at making the notes live and spring at us, full of questions. Not a frozen star-player cemented in his position on the performance circuit, in the end, Rodin’s performance had great magnificence.”

Born in Moscow in 1963, Kirill Rodin studied at the Gnessin Special Music School. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory, where he studied with professors Vera Birina and Natalia Schakhovskaya.

Rodin has served as a juror of International Competitions and has been master teacher in Germany, Australia, Spain, Argentina, Japan, South Korea, China and Australia. He is currently Professor of Cello at the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory.
